Central City Concern, Koko’s Full Circle
Change unfolds one step at a time in this Central City Concern recovery documentary, which follows Koko Ta’ase’s journey from addiction and hopelessness to recovery, purpose, and service. After more than a decade living with addiction, Koko reached a turning point beneath an avocado tree. In that quiet moment, he asked for help and began the path toward real change.
Rather than focusing on a single breakthrough, the film traces progress over time. From there, recovery becomes a process shaped by stability, support, and trust. With help from Central City Concern’s programs, Koko began rebuilding his life step by step.
Recovery Built Through Support and Community
Throughout his journey, Koko moved through multiple stages of care. He began at Hooper Detox. He then transitioned into housing, peer mentorship, and volunteer work. Along the way, participation in CCC’s Community Volunteer Corps helped him gain confidence, practical skills, and a renewed sense of direction.
At the same time, the film highlights how recovery works best when people feel seen and supported. Rather than treating services as isolated steps, the story shows how continuity of care creates space for lasting change.
A Story That Comes Full Circle
Today, Koko works with Central City Concern as a Safety and Security Liaison. He now supports others navigating the same challenges he once faced. In turn, lived experience becomes a source of strength, empathy, and leadership.
Ultimately, Koko’s Full Circle reflects the power of dignity-centered, community-based care. It’s a story about resilience, trust, and what becomes possible when people receive the support they need at the right time.
